Honolulu, Oahu (Feb. 1, 2011): The Surfrider Foundation O'ahu Chapter and Sierra Club Hawai'i will be screening Susan Beraza's award-winning film, Bag It on Wednesday, February 16, at 6 p.m. at the Hawai'i State Capitol Auditorium. Seating is first come, first served.
Tasty pupus donated by Downtown Restaurant will be served before the film (at 6 p.m.), and a panel discussion with key legislators and representatives from nonprofit organizations such as Kokua Hawai'i Foundation will follow the screening. The infamous plastic bag monster will also be in attendance.
This is a plastic-free event. Sustainable wares have been donated by Styrophobia, and water will be available. Bring reusable bottles!
About Bag It
In this touching and often flat-out-funny film, Jeb Berrier an average American guy who is admittedly not a "tree hugger," makes a pledge to stop using plastic bags. This simple action gets Jeb thinking about all kinds of plastic as he embarks on a global tour to unravel the complexities of our plastic world. Why? Five bills relating to plastic bags are circulating the legislature. This is your chance to be entertained, while learning more about the grassroots effort supporting waste-reduction in Hawai'i.
Where do I park?
There is an underground parking garage at the Hawai'i State Capitol. (Park in metered stalls only.) The garage is accessible off of Punchbowl Street via Miller Street. If that lot is full, try the outdoor metered stalls at 'Iolani Palace, or along Punchbowl and Richard Streets. Even better... ride your bike, take the bus, skateboard or carpool.
