Honolulu, Oahu (Dec. 6, 2010):  The Surfrider Foundation Oahu Chapter will host a cleanup on the North Shore at Sunset Beach Park on Sat., 12/11/10, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Surfrider is partnering with Scott Sandals, Airwalk Shoes and pro surfer/ model Anastasia Ashley to remove trash from Sunset Beach to Pipeline.  Scott Hawaii will be donating some of its products and sponsoring lunch.  Airwalk will give away t-shirts and the Hope Shoe from its Good Shoe Project to the first 30 volunteers at the cleanup.  Volunteers are invited to bring reusable water bottles and recycle old plastic bags to pick up trash.

As part of its Rise Above Plastics (RAP) campaign, Surfrider is working to reduce the proliferation of single-use plastic bags and water bottles, as well as the number one littered item worldwide-cigarette butts.  The RAP campaign seeks to educate people about the prevalence of plastic marine debris on our beaches and oceans (www.riseaboveplastics.org). Surfrider hosts monthly cleanups with sponsors like Scott Hawaii and Airwalk to keep our beaches clean and educate the public about ocean-related issues.

Scott Hawaii had its start in 1932 after founders Elmer and Jean Scott moved from Marblehead, MA. to the Territory of Hawaii.  Now in its third generation, the company still operates under the same principles, vision and dedication that made them a success. Although the styling has come a long way, the quality and attention to detail are still the same. Their "slippas" and footwear have come a long way, and their story continues to reflect the traditional yet changing culture of Hawaii (www.scotthawaii.com).

For over twenty years, Airwalk has broken new ground within youth board sports culture and youth lifestyle. Airwalk has become a world-renowned brand responsible for the design of active and casual footwear, apparel and accessories (www.airwalk.com).  Sponsored by Airwalk Shoes, Anastasia Ashley grew up in Hawaii and is a pro surfer and successful model.  By 18, she was named the ASP Hawaiian Triple Crown Rookie of the Year and was a finalist at the 2009 Women's Pipeline Pro.  As part of their Good Shoe Project, Airwalk will give one pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair of Hope Shoes sold.  The Hope shoe can be purchased at any Payless Shoe Store, or through www.payless.com.

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and preservation of our world's oceans, waves and beaches. Surfrider has over 50,000 members and 70 chapters across the United States. The Oahu Chapter is in its 15th year of activism and has been working on issues of beach access, water quality, coastal preservation and plastic marine debris.  For more information, go to www.surfrider.org/oahu.
