Surfrider Oahu Chapter would like to thank
San Lorenzo Bikinis,
Green Girl Yoga, and all the
VOLUNTEERS who came out on May 18th at Kalama Beach Park for
Hands Across the Sand & Kailua Beach Cleanup!
Although Kalama Beach Park seemed clean at first sight, closer inspection revealed the sand is completely covered with tiny pieces of plastic. Volunteers removed 58 lbs of trash from Kalama Beach Park, of which 38 pounds were MICROPLASTICS! Volunteers carefully sifted through the sand and hand-picked degraded microplastics from the sand. We were stoked that many volunteers rode their bikes, took the bus and walked to the beach cleanup!
We started the day with a relaxing yoga session provided by
Green Girl Yoga. Around noon, We celebrated
Hands Across the Sand, an international coordinated day of action to say,”Yes!” to clean energy and “No!” to offshore drilling and fossil fuels. We were joined by our sponsors, San Lorenzo Bikinis, who provided great prizes for volunteers and supplied their beautiful bikini models who protested against off-shore drilling! In a symbolic effort against off-shore drilling and in support of clean energy, the San Lorenzo bikini models and volunteers were smeared in "fake oil"! Thank you San Lorenzo bikinis!
Please check out the photos and share!

This may be the time to useTheBus and maybe explore this hidden gem in Kailua for the first time too?! Parking is very limited (33 slots) so please find respectable street parking if Kalama Beach Park parking fills up.
