350.org, Sierra Club, Surfrider, Climate Nexus, GreenFaith, Oxfam America, Rainforest Action Network and many other groups worldwide are planning the year’s largest climate change march, the Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice Day, on Saturday, September 8. There will be hundreds of events across the globe! Will you join us?

We will meet in the Capitol rotunda at 11:30 and march to Honolulu Hale. We’ll thank the legislature for what they’ve done on climate change, and nag them to move faster; and we’ll urge the City Council to pass our Fossil Fuel-Free Resolution. There will be a variety of speakers, music, and as much press coverage as we can get.

We have some t-shirts to give away, and “signs” of suns and windmills we’ll be raising to chants. The day before, we will deliver our petitions to the Council, along with our resolution. And we’ll leave a sun sign as a reminder.

350Hawaii created a petition to take to the Honolulu City Council which says:

“The City and County of Honolulu should ban all new fossil fuel infrastructure, and move to 100% clean renewable energy for all by 2030.”

Hawaii and the world can’t take a gradual approach to climate change. You’ve seen what it’s doing to our weather, our beaches, our coral reefs. A resolution by the Honolulu City Council will strengthen Hawaii’s various commitments to lead the nation in adopting clean energy, and hasten our progress toward those goals.
